Charles Sturt University (CSU) is a public university located in New South Wales, Australia. It was established in 1989 and is the largest regional university in Australia. The university has campuses in Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Goulburn, Orange, Port Macquarie, and Wagga Wagga.

The history of Charles Sturt University dates back to the late 19th century. In 1891, the New South Wales government established the Riverina College of Advanced Education in Wagga Wagga. This college was the first tertiary education institution in the region and provided courses in agriculture, education, and science. In 1970, the college was renamed the Riverina-Murray Institute of Higher Education and began offering more courses in the humanities and social sciences.

In 1974, the New South Wales government established the Riverina-Murray Institute of Higher Education and the Riverina College of Advanced Education as separate institutions. In 1989, the two institutions merged to form Charles Sturt University. The university was named after the explorer Charles Sturt, who explored the Murray-Darling Basin in the early 19th century.

Since its establishment, Charles Sturt University has grown significantly. In 1993, the university opened its first campus in Albury-Wodonga.
