Duarte Pacheco Pereira was a Portuguese explorer, navigator, and soldier who lived during the 15th century. He is best known for his exploration of the Atlantic Ocean and his role in the Portuguese conquest of the Canary Islands. He is also credited with the discovery of the Azores Islands, which are now part of Portugal.
Pacheco Pereira was born in 1460 in the Portuguese city of Viseu. He was the son of a nobleman and was educated in the court of King Afonso V.
