Maria Pronchishcheva is a Russian figure skater who has been a part of the sport for over two decades. She is a two-time Olympic medalist, a four-time World Champion, and a six-time European Champion. She is considered one of the most successful female figure skaters in the history of the sport.
Maria Pronchishcheva was born in Moscow, Russia in 1975. She began skating at the age of five and quickly showed promise. She was coached by the legendary Russian figure skating coach, Tatiana Tarasova. Under Tarasova's tutelage, Pronchishcheva quickly rose to the top of the sport.
In 1991, Pronchishcheva won her first major international competition, the European Figure Skating Championships. She followed this up with a gold medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France. This was the first Olympic gold medal for a Russian female figure skater.
