Vanessa O'Brien

Vanessa O'Brien is an explorer, mountaineer, and public speaker who has achieved a number of impressive feats in her lifetime. She is best known for being the first woman to summit both Mount Everest and K2, the world's two highest mountains. She is also the first person to have completed the Explorers Grand Slam, which involves climbing the highest peak on each continent and skiing to both the North and South Poles.

Vanessa O'Brien was born in England in 1965 and grew up in the United States. She attended the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she earned a degree in International Relations. In 2012, O'Brien set her sights on K2, the second highest peak in the world. She was part of a team of climbers that included her husband, who was also a mountaineer. After a grueling climb, she became the first woman to summit K2.

In 2013, O'Brien completed the Explorers Grand Slam, becoming the first person to do so. She climbed the highest peak on each continent and skied to both the North and South Poles. She also became the first woman to ski to the South Pole.

In 2014, O'Brien was awarded the National Geographic Adventurer of the Year award. She has since gone on to climb other mountains, including Mount Vinson in Antarctica and Mount McKinley in Alaska.
